The Path to Season 6 Renewal of Lucifer

Since becoming a Netflix Original in season 4, the show has become one of the streaming service's biggest blockbusters, but it will tragically come to an end after six seasons.

Lucifer Season 5 was nominated for best choreography for a written program at the 2021 Emmys, while Tom Ellis was nominated for an award as best actor in an online comedy-drama series.

Season 6 of Lucifer, of course, was never supposed to occur.

The Netflix relaunch of the series, which began with season four, was supposed to finish with season five. That's one of the reasons the program was divided into 2 halves and granted an extra season.

When Netflix announced that Season 5 would be the final season, fans were understandably upset because Netflix had given the Lucifer series a new life just to take it all away after two seasons. It sparked the typical initiatives, like petitions (with the best performing petition securing over 100K signatures).

Rumors about a sixth season emerged in early 2020, with Netflix reversing its decision and attempting to renew season 6 but only after everyone signed on.

Ildy Modrovich with Joe Henderson did sign up for a sixth season in late February 2020.

After additional talks in April 2020, the second resurrection appeared less possible when Tom Ellis' contract negotiations fell through. However, they were resolved and Tom Ellis was re-signed in May 2020.

The first time we heard of Netflix changing its mind was in February 2020, when TVLine reported that Netflix was back in discussions with Warner Brothers Television to renew the show.

On June 23rd, 2020, we learned that season 6 will take place, and so it was called the “final FINAL” season.
