1. Karnan

A stirring cry to arms against a system based on injustice, Mari Selvaraj's second feature film, Karnan (2021), serves as Mari Selvaraj's directorial debut.

Dhanush plays the title character, a rescuer of the people of a tiny hamlet named Podiyankulam. Mari builds his characters and the environment throughout the first half, which culminates in a frightening pre-intermission block in which Karnan mercilessly smashes a bus.

This is an intriguing choice for the story's plot. Instead of a real adversary, we are given a bus that represents all of the prejudice that the villagers have had to endure over the years. This sets up a confrontation between the peasants and the police force, which is led by the cunning Kannabiran, as the story progresses.

Along with Karnan, Selvaraj continues his mission of telling stories that are socially aware. The performances are outstanding across the board. Dhanush delivers on the brief, eliciting a range of emotions from us during his journey as a hesitant hero. Each of the three leads, Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli, Natarajan, and Gouri Kishen, perform well in their respective parts. The exciting score by Santhosh Narayanan aids in bringing us out of our sleep of ignorance.

2. Dharala Prabhu

Dharala Prabhu was released in Tamil, and it will be the official Tamil version of Shoojit Sircar's sleeper smash Vicky Donor.

The story of a sperm donor is retold by director Krishna Marimuthu through the perspective of a new generation. He skillfully adapts the film to fit the local audience's needs better while never losing sight of the original's intended message or tone.

While Vicky accepts the offer to give sperm for his benefit, Prabhu is reluctant to accept the offer until he discovers the truth about his football coach's inability to reproduce.

Krishna provides an additional emotional dimension to the story, making it easier to root for the protagonist. Harish Kalyan's spirited performance contributes to the overall success.

Vicky Donor is a film in which we only witness the couple adopting a kid towards the movie's conclusion. Dharala Prabhu takes it further by presenting the adoptive child much sooner in the film than most other directors.

3. Master

Lokesh Kanagaraj's newest release, Master (2021), is the best Tamil movie on amazon prime and follows through on his promise to produce a polished mass-market film. Making a film with Vijay, who is undoubtedly one of the greatest stars in Kollywood, is usually a stressful experience. It's a delicate balancing act, attempting to please his adoring followers while still maintaining his voice as a creative.

Lokesh also tosses a strong adversary in the shape of Bhavani, portrayed by the flamboyant Vijay Sethupathy, to make things interesting. His introduction to the villain provides us with a glimpse into what makes Bhavani so dangerous in the first place. The moments in which both actors compete against one other are a highlight of the film.

On the other hand, Malavika's character seems underdeveloped, although she has a significant role in JD's awakening. The whole college part of the film doesn't provide any new information about the characters. It simply helps to lengthen the film's already excessively long duration of almost three hours further.

4. Soorarai Pottru (2020)

It is one of the finest Tamil movies available on Amazon Prime. The emotional weight inherent in the underdog story, bolstered by Surya's passionate performance, hides a few lackluster subplots under the film's surface. Furthermore, Soorarai Pottru brings the critical socio-political factors that contribute to the rejection of low-cost air transportation.

5. Baaram

Baaram filmmaker Priya Krishnaswamy won a National Award for Best Tamil Feature Film for combining the documentary style with the structure of a feature film. Thalaikoothal is cultural malpractice that is shown realistically in the film. It is a harsh social reality that is depicted realistically in the film.

The film is a beautiful gift of appreciation aimed towards the sick and suffering parents whose lives have been touched due to senicide (the death of the elderly) and involuntary euthanasia technique. It is also a true depiction of the socially accepted truths that have been normalized at the expense of human life.

6. Peranbu

In the film Peranbu (2019), directed by Ram Peranbu, we see a sincere, humanitarian masterwork that holds a mirror up to our bleak existence. Real-life issues that directly or indirectly threaten the lives of those who are not considered "normal" are addressed in the film, which revolves around a father and his daughter who has cerebral palsy and chronicles.

In the process, they suffer a succession of betrayals from people they considered their own, those in whom they placed their trust, and of course, those who opposed them from the start. Peranbu is a frightening film that is also very moving to see.

The use of a chaptered novel-like narrative method serves to elevate the film's complexity while also allowing for a much more planned and refined approach to be used. It is impossible not to be impressed by the performances of both protagonists, who are on par with the best of performers, and the on-screen relationship they build during the film is uncannily genuine.

7. Viswasam

An out-and-out masala entertainment, Viswasam has a slew of spectacular action sequences and an appealing father-daughter combo that will warm your heart as well. It is amongst the good Tamil movies on amazon prime. The performances are excellent, and the action is much improved. The cinematography is superior to the norm. There isn't anything innovative about the tale in terms of plot.

However, it does not fall short of expectations, as its action scenes and plotlines, which are based on age-old rivalries and acts of revenge, offer enough amusement. In this picture, one of the most endearing aspects is the father-daughter connection. The message of letting children live their own lives without being burdened by their parents' wishes is always appreciated in a culture that regularly fails to grasp this seemingly basic idea.

8. Ayogya

In Ayogya, directed by Venkat Mohan, Temper (which was also remade in Hindi as Simmba) is about a corrupt cop who turns good. This is not because of some pointless plot, but because of a well-designed and valid chain of events that leads to our protagonist's extremely able character development and plotline.

However, although the execution may be faulty and the acting may not be flawless, the film's heart and soul connect with the audience. A testament to the seriousness with which the film takes itself and the seriousness with which it takes the societal evil that it represents on screen is the ultimate self-sacrifice.

9. Monster

Monster is a wild, wacky comedy directed by Nelson Venkatesan, and it is partly based on the 1997 Hollywood picture of the same name. This Tamil film includes its own culturally relevant modifications that make it more acceptable for Indian viewers.

The concept is straightforward. It is the art of narrative that reigns supreme here. A guy is trying to get rid of a rat that has taken up residence in his home. Despite his repeated efforts, he is unsuccessful. The film maintains your attention throughout its running length, and it is full of surprises and twists along the way. Moreover, although it is entertaining, it also quietly conveys an important message.

10. Vellai Pookal

It is a film directed by a group of first-timers and featuring Kollywood's well-known character artist Vivek in the lead role; Vellai Pookal deals with an intriguing storyline that centers on a 57-year-old police officer named Rudhran (Vivek).

Although there are some parallels in the general scenario, this film creates an impact with several refreshing elements such as the performances, the distinctive style of editing, the superb cinematography accompanied by vivid visuals, and the well-written script.

Conclusion

It's wonderful to see such mind-blowing talent in all the above-mentioned Tamil movies on Amazon Prime. Hurry to make time this weekend and watch most of the movies off this list. You are in for a fabulous time. A memorable weekend ahead in advance!
